Antigonish

Why Antigonish?

Antigonish is the home of the St. Francis Xavier University, which has been first in the official ranking of Canadian universities for many years. The warmest part of the Atlantic ocean north of South Carolina is only minutes away from Antigonish. This is exactly where our cottage is located on a 25 acre lot with 400 m of our own waterfront. Here you are very close to the growing university town of Antigonish and yet right in the middle of nature and next to the Atlantic ocean. The low crime rate, the friendliness of the people and the natural conditions, such as clean air, clear water, a comfortable climate and peacefulness, create a high standard of living.

Besides the famous St. F.X. University, Antigonish offers all conveniences of a small town with good infrastructure:

a large and renowned hospital (St. Martha's Hospital), countless restaurants, theatres, movie theatres, many shops and stores and two shopping malls with very customer friendly opening hours (inc. Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm), golf courts, tennis courts, a sport arena with exciting hockey games, swimming pools, home department stores, museums, galleries, all school types, playgrounds, kindergartens, doctors of all specialties, pubs with live music, the popular weekly farmers market, railroad stations and so on.

Antigonish is the home of many annual festivals; among them the largest and oldest Highland-Games outside of Scotland, music festivals and so on.

The combination of a university town with students and professors and the rural environment with farms and abundant nature is especially charming. That is unique to Nova Scotia!

Antigonish lies in the heart of Nova Scotia. From here you can reach every other place in this small marine state at the east coast of Canada in little time. It is only 1,5 hours to the international airport of Halifax, 1 hr and 50 min to downtown Halifax, 35 min to Cape Breton and the countless national parks, 45 min to the wild Eastern shore, 40 min to the museum village of Sherbrooke, 75 min to Canso and 70 min to Tatamagouche / Malagash with its known vineyard "Jost's Winery“. Small private vineyards can be found around Antigonish as well. The drive to Cape George with the beautiful light house and park takes app. 25 min.
